Chesed Shel Emes Buried 34 Mesei Mitzva in Recent Weeks

A grim reality is hitting New Yorkers as the daily death toll is slowly coming down, although it’s still over 500 in recent days, it’s significantly lower than the 800 daily deaths reported just 2 weeks ago.

Chesed Shel Emes, the most forefront organization to handle with burial and other Jewish traditional issues following the death of a person, has seen a huge uptick in their service requirements that highlight how the virus has affected the Jewish world.

The organization has done over 750 Taharos in recent weeks, according to an unofficial count. They’ve also buried 34 people in their cemetery, which is generally reserved for Jewish individuals without a family.

While the numbers are improving, New York Gov. Cuomo and NYC Mayor de Blasio warned that people need to maintain social distancing in order to avoid a second flare up. The Governor has extended the executive order regarding non-essential businesses till at least mid-May.
