With sincere gratitude, Community Board 12 Chairman Yidel Perlstein, at the board’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, gave a special shout-out to the sanitation workers, firefighters, the police officers, and community volunteers who put in so much effort for the community in the days before Yom Tov.

First, Community Board 12 expressed its deep appreciation for the “phenomenal job” the city’s Department of Sanitation did in “clearing tons of garbage from our streets and [elected] leadership provided numerous resources to get the job done,” District Manager Beri Spitzer said.

In addition, Perlstein gave “major thanks” to the hundreds of workers and volunteers who ensured that everyone was safe during the many Sreifas Chametz celebrations that took place on April 15, erev Pesach.

Perlstein, who also thanked Spitzer for making countless phone calls to coordinate the efforts of hundreds, said he was proud that no one was injured at the event that, in the past has unfortunately created many emergencies.

“We really must thank the hundreds of our Chaveirm, Shomrim, and Hatzolah volunteers for the work they do throughout the year, but after such a big undertaking, they deserve special thanks,” said Perlstein, who out pointed out that while the community has, Baruch Hashem, not seen any injuries on erev Pesach in the last few years, “We must not take it for granted.”

“For those who remember what used to go on,” said Perlstein, referring to kids’ unchecked enthusiasm for building large fires, the Community Board 12 chairman said he is proud of the jobs the many do to make sure that events continue without any unfortunate incidents.

“Part of the hard job that police officers and others who ensure community safety is that when things go well, nobody realizes what could have happened ‘if not’ for their efforts.”
