COVID Hospitalization Rate Continues to Plummet, while Delta Variant Rates Increase

The number of patients who are hospitalized for COVID-19 plummeted to 330 today, a number that dropped considerably even from yesterday’s low number of 371.

The low number of COVID hospitalizations significantly indicates that the vaccination of more than 10 million New Yorkers has pushed COVID back and caused its steady decline.

"Getting shots in arms is the key to our future, and we're offering several exciting incentives to New Yorkers across the state who haven't yet been vaccinated,” Gov. Cuomo said yesterday. “Taking the shot protects your family, friends and community, so if you haven't been vaccinated, please walk into a site or make an appointment today."

While the governor has been touting New York’s declining COVID positivity rates, officials warn of the quickly spreading “delta variant” that continues to threaten anyone who has not been vaccinated.

On Friday, the Health Department revealed data that showed that the presence of the delta variant, which devastated India before spreading globally, has nearly doubled in New York City since officials' previous report.

The delta variant, which is thought to be up to 60% more transmissible than the first COVID variant that came out of the U.K. last year, accounts for at least 10.3% of citywide samples that were tested in the last four weeks.
