300 Construction Sites in NYC Shuttered

A major crackdown at construction sites around the city is underway.

More than 300 construction sites around New York City are being shut down by the Department of Buildings (DOB) which cited concern for the safety of the workers at these projects—with one third of these construction sites being in Brooklyn.

Seven construction workers have lost their lives due to unsafe conditions this year alone, three in the month of may.

In addition to the department of buildings visiting sites and issuing “stop work” orders, there are bills being introduced in the City Council to address the issue of worker safety.

Although there seem not to be any direct correlation to tragic events of Surfside, in Miami, which was related to the structural and topographical issues, the crackdown does come in the immediate aftermath of those events.
