Crash Driver to Get Reduced Sentence in Tragic Ocean Parkway Accident
By Y.M. Lowy
The driver who killed a mother and two of her daughters on Ocean Parkway is set to get a lighter sentence than prosecutors had wanted.
The killer pleaded guilty in October to three counts of second-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors had originally sought five to 15 years in prison.
The crash happened in March when she was driving with a suspended license and had a long history of traffic violations, including 20 speeding tickets.
Judge Danny Chun is expected to sentence Yarimi to three to nine years under a plea deal. Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez said the sentence “falls short” of what his office wanted, adding, “The lives of Natasha Saada and her young daughters were stolen by the callous choices of a chronically reckless driver.”
Advocates continue pushing for stronger protections for pedestrians, including technology like speed limiters for repeat offenders, in hopes of preventing another tragedy like this
