Cuomo Announces Formula for Reopening Schools

Monday morning, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, laid out the formula New York will use to determine whether schools will open in the fall.

He says, “We are not going to use our children as guinea pigs.”

The sate will make decisions based on data from August 1-7, using the following formula.

Cuomo says regions need to be in Phase four of reopening with a COVID_19 infection rate of 5 percent or lower based on a 14-day average.

Schools will close if the regional infection rate is greater than 9 percent using a 7-day average, after August 1st.

If schools receive the ok to reopen, they will receive guidance on how to do so properly.

On Sunday, New York city had no coronavirus related deaths and statewide numbers remain good.

De Blasio says, “it should make us hopeful, but we are far from taking a victory lap.”
