De Blasio Says NYPD Officers Without Masks Should Face ”Penalties”
Mayor Bill de Blasio says NYPD officers who do not wear masks should face “penalties.”
“Our officers should be held to the same standard as all citizens all public standards,” de Blasio said during a press conference. “If they don’t, there should be penalties.”
He pointed out that most cops are indeed following guidelines and wearing masks.
This statement comes as data shows COVID-19 is the leading cause of law enforcement deaths across the country.
On Tuesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo declared that ”wearing a mask is the law.” He then called on Police Commissioner Dermot Shea to ensure that the rules are being enforced among his department.
