By Y.M. Lowy

A major law-enforcement operation unfolded across multiple locations in the Boro Park area this morning, drawing a large presence of federal agents and local police officers. A news helicopter was also seen flying over the area as the activity continued.

BoroPark24 alerted to the developing situation after reports of law-enforcement activity near Fort Hamilton Parkway and 51st Street. As additional information came in, agents and officers were also spotted at several other locations, including 4022 8th Avenue, between 40th and 41st Streets, as well as near 3rd Avenue and 52nd Street.

At approximately 8:50 a.m., numerous law-enforcement personnel were observed near 4022 8th Avenue, between 40th and 41st Streets. Individuals wearing jackets identifying them as members of federal agencies were seen at the scene, including FBI agents and personnel marked “HSI,” referring to Homeland Security Investigations.

The activity drew a crowd of residents and passersby, who gathered on the sidewalk as officers and agents remained in the area.

An officer told people at the scene that the operation involved a “criminal warrant,” but did not provide further details about whom the warrant concerned or the nature of the investigation.

The Citizen app also recorded police activity on the block at approximately 8:54 a.m.

The operation involved a significant law-enforcement presence, with reports of activity involving the FBI, NYPD, IRS and other agencies.

In addition to the scene on 8th Avenue, law-enforcement personnel were seen near Fort Hamilton Parkway and 51st Street, and later near 3rd Avenue and 52nd Street. The activity across these locations drew attention throughout the neighborhood as residents tried to determine what was unfolding.

One of the locations where agents were observed was 4022 8th Avenue, an address listed in New York City’s Department for the Aging directory for Happy Adult Day Care Inc., a social adult day-care facility. It remains unclear whom the reported criminal warrant concerned.

BoroPark24 is continuing to follow the developing situation and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
