DISGUSTING: Construction Finished, Punishment Continues; 44th Street Hit With Mass Parking Tickets
By BoroPark24 Staff
Residents of 44th Street between 14th and 15th Avenues woke up this Shabbos morning to a scene that can only be described as disgraceful: a parking ticket on nearly every single vehicle on the block.
For months, the street has been officially labeled “under construction.” While some work may still be ongoing on one side of the block, residents say the area has been left in a constant state of disorder - with broken barricades tossed aside, leftover gates and cones scattered aimlessly, and the block stuck in bureaucratic limbo.
And after weeks of patience and cooperation, the city’s response was not resolution, not cleanup, and not communication, but tickets. Dozens of cars, on both sides of the street, were hit at once, turning an already frustrating situation into outright outrage.
What makes it worse: there was no construction taking place over the entire weekend. No crews. No active work. No clear direction for residents, yet enforcement arrived in full force. The block may still be listed in a city database as an “active construction zone,” but on the ground there was no visible activity and no clear signage that justified mass ticketing. The only thing that showed up on time was the ticket agent.
This is what happens when city departments don’t coordinate, when contractors leave streets cluttered and confusing, and when enforcement becomes detached from what’s actually happening on the ground. The result is simple: a neighborhood punished for the city’s own mismanagement.
