DMV To Undergo Major Technological Overhaul

By BoroPark24 Staff

In an instance of our government doing something with our tax money, Governor Hochul announced that the DMV has launched a multi-year project to completely overhaul their systems and change to updated technology.

“As a former County Clerk, I know first-hand the importance of the DMV in providing critical services to New Yorkers,” Governor Hochul said. “These investments are a major step forward in the DMV’s strategic modernization as we look to create a quicker, easier and more convenient experience for everyone.”

In a statement, Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder said, “Throughout this project, we will be replacing a patchwork of outdated computer systems, software and databases that account for about 70 percent of DMV’s business volume… this project will help us serve [customers] better, faster, and will make our customer’s lives easier.”

This will hopefully help the DMV speed up processing times and eliminate the many paper forms, which will in turn allow for more online and self-serve options.
