Elderly Driver Loses Control While Parking on 14th Avenue, Narrowly Misses Building
At around 11:10 p.m. Sunday night, an elderly man attempting to reverse into a parking spot on 14th Avenue and 50th Street lost control of his vehicle, jumping the curb and crashing through a fence that surrounded a small grassy area. The car came to a stop just a few feet away from an apartment building, narrowly avoiding a much more serious outcome.
Hatzolah responded quickly to the scene and treated the driver, who appeared to be okay but was checked out in the ambulance as a precaution.
Shortly after, FDNY and NYPD arrived and secured the area with caution tape while waiting for a tow truck to remove the vehicle.
Video from the scene shows the moment the driver loses control and reverses up onto the sidewalk, crashing through the fence. Thankfully, no pedestrians were in the area at the time.
