EXCLUSIVE: “My car Tumbled 150 Feet, and I Walked out Unscathed”

By: Yehuda Alter

It was 3:30 in the morning and Moishy Kaufman was cruising down a pitch-black Route 52 in the Catskills, near the town of Ellenville, when he pulled over to close his eyes for a few moments. As he pulled over, he felt the car jolt…and then it began careening down a steep incline, into the forest.

That he emerged from there unscathed is an open miracle for which Moishy does not cease giving thanks to Hashem.

He told his story exclusively to Boropark24.

“My family is originally from Eretz Yisroel, but we moved here a number of years ago. I have always loved to tinker artistically, and I design spaces for people, painting wall murals, and other related projects. I was working many hours every day, and I had a job in the Catskills. My sister had gotten married a few days earlier, and my mother asked me to come to Monroe for the Sheva brochos.

“I couldn’t turn her town, and I went. Returning to the Catskills, I brought back some family members, and I was five minutes from my house, when I felt I could not drive another inch—I was so exhausted,” he recalled. .

“I pulled over to the side of the road, and I felt the barrier move a bit…and my car jerked to the side. Suddenly, I was in freefall…tumbling and sliding downward. I closed my eyes and yelled out to Hashem to save me… and then the car rammed into a tree and came to a standstill.

“I tried getting out of the car, but the door wouldn’t open. My phone had 3% battery remaining, and although I was in an area that generally did not have service, I was able to call my friend, and I sent him my location. He was soon there, and called Hatzolah.

“Incredibly—aside from a little shoulder pain and some scratches—I was completely fine,” Moishy relates emotionally.

Hatzolah took him into the hospital, and the large team of doctors that was waiting to receive him could not believe their eyes. They had seen the pictures of the wrecked car… and could not fathom that the passenger would be intact, let alone walk on his two feet. After running numerous tests, again and again, he was released from the hospital. Moishy went straight to the mikvah, and then to daven and bench hagomel for the incredible miracles.

For Moishy—aside from his eternal gratitude to Hashem—this episode brought to the fore so much ahavas Yisroel. Everyone from the Hatzolah volunteers who came out in the wee hours of the morning, and remained with him to walk him through the hospital maze, to the individual who helped him get his wrecked vehicle processed, to the crowds who rejoiced with him in his miracle…

I can only say: “Mi k’amcha Yisroel!”
