Former NYC Mayor Eric Adams Unveils New Cryptocurrency Project

By Y.M. Lowy

Eric Adams, who recently served as mayor of New York City, is launching a new cryptocurrency venture just weeks after leaving office.

Adams, a well-known supporter of cryptocurrency during his tenure, announced the project after returning from a brief international trip. The new digital coin, “NYC Token,” was introduced at a Manhattan press conference, with promotional signs displayed in Times Square.

Adams said the project will be connected to a nonprofit organization and noted that he is not taking a salary at this time. He says the NYC Token is intended to raise funds for causes such as fighting antisemitism and teaching young people about digital finance.

While in office, Adams drew attention for converting his mayoral paychecks into cryptocurrency. Information about the project remains limited. The NYC Token website offers basic instructions on how to obtain the coin, but links to purchase it and to read a full explanation of how it works were inactive as of the announcement.
