Freeze Warning in Effect for NYC on Tuesday

Freeze Warning in Effect for NYC on Tuesday

By Y.M. Lowy

The National Weather Service has upgraded its Freeze Watch to a Freeze Warning for NYC, in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop to between 30 and 32 degrees, marking one of the coldest nights so far this season.

Residents are urged to take precautions overnight. Homeowners should take steps to protect their plumbing. In unheated or drafty spaces, let a small trickle of water run from faucets, and open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.

Anyone going out is warned to bundle up, as wind chills will make it feel colder than the actual temperature. Frost is also expected to form on sidewalks, windshields, and other surfaces, so drivers should plan extra time in the morning to defrost cars and clear windows.

The freeze is a reminder that winter is near, bringing the city’s first true taste of the cold months ahead.
