New Ferry Landing Coming to Sunset Park as NYC Ferry Expands Routes

By Y.M. Lowy

A new NYC Ferry landing is coming to Sunset Park as part of a major redesign of the city’s ferry system, the NYC Economic Development Corporation announced. The updated routes and new stops are scheduled to take place on December 8.

The expansion includes two new landings, one in East Harlem at 125th Street and another in Sunset Park near Pier 6. The Sunset Park stop will give local commuters direct access to destinations across the city, including Wall Street and Midtown Manhattan.

As part of the redesign, the EDC introduced a new ferry map that simplifies routes and expands service between boroughs. The Soundview and Rockaway routes will be combined, letting riders from Rockaway and Sunset Park travel directly to Midtown and East 90th Street without transferring. This new route will run about every 45 minutes.

The East River route will be split into two lines during most times of the day, allowing for more seats and faster trips when ridership is high.

The South Brooklyn route will see increased service, offering Red Hook and Atlantic Avenue residents direct access to Midtown. During summer weekends, it will also connect Sunset Park and Bay Ridge to Red Hook and other nearby landings.

The redesign will make ferry travel a more practical, connected option for New Yorkers, with the new Sunset Park landing extending service to another stretch of the Brooklyn waterfront.
