Hazmat Response at Maimonides Medical Center
By Y.M. Lowy
Multiple firefighters and emergency services responded to a reported chemical spill in the emergency room at Maimonides Medical Center on Fort Hamilton Parkway. Staff reported a strong odor in the area, prompting a hazmat response.
Officials say no injuries have been reported. Hazmat teams remain on the scene as operations continue.
UPDATE:
Maimonides released a statement saying the odor was coming from one section of the emergency room, caused by HVAC maintenance work. Patients were transferred to different sections of the emergency department, and ambulances were diverted to other hospitals. The problem is expected to be resolved quickly when air quality testing is complete.
