Tragedy on the BQE: Off Duty NYPD Officer Killed in Motorcycle Crash

An off duty officer from the 84th Precinct, Officer Pena, was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident this morning around 8:40 a.m. on the BQE toward Boro Park just past Atlantic Avenue.

First responders arrived to find the officer unresponsive and not breathing, prompting an urgent rush to the nearest hospital. Sadly, Officer Pena did not survive his injuries.

Dashcam video submitted to BP24 shows the rider traveling recklessly at high speeds on the shoulder just seconds before the crash.

The highway was shut down, causing heavy traffic, while the NYPD Highway Patrol investigated the fatal crash.
