Historic Liska Beis Medrash in Boro Park Fully Demolished
By BoroPark24 Staff
After nearly 80 years serving as the heart of Liska Chassidus in Boro Park, the historic Liska Beis Medrash has now been fully demolished, marking the end of an emotional chapter for generations of chassidim and neighborhood residents.
The demolition clears the way for the construction of a magnificent new Liska Beis Medrash to rise on the very same grounds, with expanded space and modern facilities designed to accommodate the continued growth of the kehillah while preserving the legacy of the historic site.
Liska Chassidus traces its roots to the famed Rav Tzvi Hersh of Liska, whose influence spread throughout Hungary and beyond. Following the devastation of European Jewry during the Holocaust, the remnants of Liska were rebuilt in America by the previous Liska Rebbe, Harav Yosef Friedlander, who established Ateres Tzvi M’Liska in Boro Park and nurtured the kehilla until his petirah in 1971.
During the construction period, the kehillah has temporarily relocated to 1430-50th Street, where tefillos and learning are continuing uninterrupted until the completion of the new building.
