As the use of e-bikes continues to increase there have been plenty of stories in the news of accidents and fires involving e-bikes.
To combat this growing issue, Governor Hochul signed a new legislation to raise awareness about e-bikes and other devices that use lithium-ion batteries, which can be dangerous if not handled correctly. This legislation is an effort to keep e-bike riders safe by ensuring they know how to use their devices and charge them properly.
“As e-bike adoption increases and battery technology continues to develop, I urge New Yorkers to be aware of safety best practices and to use their devices and chargers properly,” Governor Hochul said. “These laws underscore our commitment to help New Yorkers make educated, safe, smart choices with their purchases of products with lithium-ion batteries and how to best store and use them in order prevent any more tragedies from occurring.”
