Hurricane Ida Brings Heavy Downpour and Gusty Winds to Boro Park

     Remnants of Tropical Depression Ida might be bringing two to four inches of strong, heavy rain to New York City in the next few hours, said weather enthusiastic Yaker Biegeleisen, who added that heavy rain will come with winds of 20mph and wind gusts of around  50 miles per hour, are also expected.

     Boro Parkers can expect the showers to start pouring and the wind to start howling tonight at around  7pm, said Mr. Biegeleisen, who added that the heavy rain and wind will peak later tonight, but it will not let up until around 3am.

     Such heavy rain is expected to come down tonight that weather experts are also on the watch for tornadoes and tornadic waterspouts, which are tornadoes that form over water, that might arrive on land in New York City tonight, explained weather enthusiastic Yaker Biegeleisen, who added that large hail and dangerous lightning can accompany waterspouts.

     Currently, the soil is drenched from the summer’s higher-than-average rainfall, so flooding is a concern in areas that easily flood, warned Mr. Biegeleisen, who added that New Yorkers should also beware of falling trees in the storm.

     “Trees fall more easily when the soil is soft and submerged in water,” Mr. Biegeleisen said.

     While areas north and west of the city will experience even heavier rainfall, the rain should stop tomorrow morning around 7am,  and the sky is expected to clear up with the sun even making its appearance by tomorrow afternoon 

     “By Thursday afternoon, the sun will be shining again,” said Biegeleisen. “The temperatures will cool down nicely, and the air will feel less humid on Friday, Shabbos, and Sunday.”
