In Tribute: Rav Yisroel Meir Shain, zt”l

The Boro Park community lost a pillar of Torah and avodas Hashem with the passing of Rav Yisroel Meir Shain, zt”l—a longtime Boro Park resident and marbitz Torah for more than six decades—in his early nineties.

He was born to his parents, Rav Moshe and Rebbetzin Ruchoma (the daughter of Rav Yaakov Yosef Herman of All for the Boss fame), and he followed the path of his illustrious forbearers in living a life of Torah and mesirus nefesh which served as a sterling example for his thousands of talmidim.

Rav Yisroel Meir began his career in harbotzas Torah sixty-three years ago, and he remained at his post as a 9th-grade Rebbi in the Mirrer Yeshiva throughout this time. He was a revered and beloved figure in the eyes of his thousands of talmidim and yeshiva faculty alike. He was known for his yiras Shamayim which rivaled his hasmodoh b’Torah.

In Boro Park, Rav Shain—a close friend to Rav Yosef Rosenblum, zt”l, the Rosh Yeshiva of Shaarei Yosher—was a fixture, and a senior figure, in the Shaarei Yosher minyan until his last days.

He leaves behind beautiful generations of bnei Torah and marbitzei Torah and talmidei chachomim.

The levaya took place on Sunday afternoon at the Mirer Yeshiva where he taught and disseminated Torah for so many years. He was eulogized and escorted on his final journey by numerous people who admired and appreciated his greatness.

Yehi zichro baruch.
