Jessica Tisch Sworn In As NYPD Commissioner

By Idy Perl

This morning, former Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch was appointed by Mayor Adams as the new NYPD Commissioner.

The Mayor made this announcement last week, following months of shakeups in his administration and the resignation of NYPD Commissioner, Edward Caban.

Tisch got sworn in Monday morning and Mayor Adams shared some remarks on X ahead of her appointment to the position: “Commissioner Jessica Tisch is a battle-tested, dedicated public servant who has proven herself to be one of the most effective managers in our administration,” Mayor Adams said. “When looking for the next NYPD commissioner, we wanted someone who would keep innovating and pushing our successes further, as we continue to drive down crime. Commissioner Jessica Tisch has proven herself as a visionary, and I know she is ready to bring that same spirit to #NewYorksFinest.”

Yesterday, during her last day at the Department of Sanitation, the DSNY released a statement as well: “Commissioner Tisch often says that when she began her first stint at the NYPD, they were still using typewriters – but by the time she left, every Officer had a cell phone,” the DSNY said. “At DSNY, she oversaw the start of the Trash Revolution, moving from trash bags piled haphazardly on sidewalks to requiring 70% of the City's trash to be in containers. Oh, and curbside composting is now citywide, too. As today is her last full day with New York's Strongest, join us in wishing her all the best as the next Commissioner of The Finest!”
