License Plate Warning for Vehicle Owners

The NYPD Transportation Bureau took to Twitter to remind vehicle owners about the consequences of a covered license plate. 

Vehicles can be ticketed or, worse, towed if a license plate is found covered. New York law specifically prohibits using any glass or plastic plate covers or any kind of coating on license plates. 

The Transportation Bureau reported that it had issued 130,557 tickets for covered license plates and towed away 1,263 vehicles that ignored the law so far in 2023.
