Mayor Adams Releases New Budget Plan

Mayor Eric Adams released the “November 2024 Financial Plan Update” today, which marks the beginning of a new budget cycle. Adams announced several new initiatives and investments that are included in the new budget which will make NYC safer and more affordable for working-class New Yorkers.
The plan firstly reflects a significant savings of almost $900 million from the past two years, and over $200 million in tax revenue, which shows that NYC’s economy is thriving.
In regard to community safety, Adams announced that 1,600 officers will be added to the NYPD, which will bring the police force to a total of nearly 34,000 officers. over $467 million will be put into cash-assistance programs to help struggling New Yorkers pay for housing, utilities, and groceries, and another $115 million will go to the CityFHEPS rental assistance program. The Adams administration is also investing in public schools and will be funding school nurses and technology projects. Part of the budget will also go towards the “Trash Revolution” program to put 9,000 new steel bins by all Department of Parks and Recreation curbside trash locations throughout the Five Boroughs.
“From day one, our administration has put working-class New Yorkers first and have been working to make this city safer, more affordable, and more livable," Mayor Adams said. "We have remained focused on strong fiscal management and achieving savings to make the best use of taxpayer dollars and balance the budget.”
