Mayor de Blasio Promises “No More Shutdowns,” $100 Incentives for Residents who get Boosted

Although Mayor Bill de Blasio has been emphasizing that the Omicron variant will make the next few weeks quite challenging, he reassured New Yorkers, “no more shutdowns.”

“We’ve been through them, said the mayor. “They were devastating. We can't go through it again.”

Thankfully, New York City’s 90% vaccination rate, is what Mayor de Blasio said will help the city to “weather the storm.”

After studying the havoc Omicron wreaked in South Africa and other countries before coming to New York City, the mayor said, “What we're seeing so far from Omicron is a very fast upsurge and then, the COVID positivity rate goes back down again.

The mayor said that, in general, the upsurge in cases are more mild that what the city has seen with previous COVID variants.

“Thankfully, our healthcare system is well-positioned in this city to deal with it," said the mayor, who emphasized that Omicron should just “be a temporary reality.”

While the mayor and his top physicians continue to say that vaccination is the key to fighting the continued risk of infection with COVID: extra protection is now necessary to fight the quickly transmissible Omicron variant.

“We want everyone, right now, as quickly as possible, to get those boosters,” said the mayor, who announced a new $100 incentive to motivate New Yorkers to get their booster shots between now and Dec. 31.

“We know that it would be nice to have a little extra cash,” the mayor said. “Over these next days, get your booster shot, and get a $100 incentive. It's going to make you feel a lot safer, a lot better that you got the booster, and you'll have some more cash in your pocket at the same time.”

To get boosted and, for the next 10 days, also get the $100 incentive, New Yorkers can head to any of the city-run vaccination sites or to any of the 2,500 SOMOS Community Care clinics and practices in the five boroughs.

“This is a limited-time opportunity, but exactly the time we need New Yorkers to go out and get their boosters,” the mayor said. “This will be by far the biggest booster incentive program in the US, and I want to see New Yorkers respond.

“Everyone gets that booster, and that's the way we move through these challenging few weeks.

“We need you to do your part. Everyone who has not yet gotten vaccinated: it's time, everyone who can get that booster: it's time, and everyone who has a young child who is not yet vaccinated: it's time.

“We got to keep everyone safe, and the way to do that is vaccination.”
