Menachem Raitport, a Lubavitcher businessman who has previously run for elected office, announced his candidacy for New York’s 9th congressional district, which after redistricting encompasses a large amount of Jewish voters.

Raitport will run on the Republican line, and will likely face the Democratic incumbent Rep. Yvette Clarke in the general election, should he win the primary.

The 9th District includes a large portion of Boro Park, spanning from 14th Avenue and going upwards till deep into Flatbush. It also includes large neighboring areas that have many Jewish voters, including Marine Park, Crown Heights.

Raitport mentioned safety as a reason for his running, telling COLlive that he stands for “family values, conservative values, and wants to increase safety in our neighborhoods.”
