Metropolitan Detention Center Under Investigation
By Idy Perl
A massive investigation is underway at the Metropolitan Detention Center right outside Boro Park, allegedly for illegal items that were smuggled into the prison.
The prison has recently come under scrutiny after several inmates were charged last month with murder and assault following knife fights that left two inmates dead.
The federal Bureau of Prisons said that several agencies are involved in the investigation, including the U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General, and witnesses have reported seeing FBI and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officers outside the prison as well.
The prison currently houses 1,200 people, including high-profile inmates such as Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the collapsed FTX cryptocurrency exchange, and singer Sean “Diddy” Combs.
