MTA and NYPD Release Results Of August Crackdown Operations
By Idy Perl
The MTA and NYPD have released the results of the August operations between the agencies to crack down on ghost plates and toll violators.
So far, the three operations of August have resulted in 166 vehicles getting impounded, 43 arrests and 1,825 summonses issued. Some of these were for perps who collectively had amassed $1,345,713 in unpaid tolls and fees.
In total, the 34 enforcement operations this year have resulted in 1,972 vehicles impounded, 438 arrests and 16,844 summonses.
“The message could not be any clearer: anyone who thinks they are above the law or doesn’t pay their tolls will find out the hard way,” MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Catherine Sheridan said. “Don't take the risk. Pay your tolls and avoid having your car taken away from you."
