MTA Announces Two New Elevators For Fort Hamilton Parkway D Station In Boro Park

The MTA announced that the Fort Hamilton Parkway D train station in Boro Park will receive two new elevators as part of a major accessibility upgrade for Brooklyn subway stations.

The upgrades are meant to make the station easier to use for riders who cannot easily use the stairs, including people with disabilities, seniors, parents with strollers, along others in need.

The Fort Hamilton Parkway station was chosen as part of the MTA’s effort to improve access in areas where several consecutive stations along one line are currently not accessible. Once completed, the new elevators will give more riders in the area a direct way to use the subway without relying only on staircases.

The project is being funded through congestion pricing revenue, which the MTA says is helping fund billions of dollars in transit improvements across the city, along with the environmental benefits. The agency said congestion pricing is supporting work to rebuild, improve, and expand the transit system, including accessibility projects at subway stations.

In addition to the elevators, the MTA said the work will include other station improvements, including platform repairs, improved fare areas, staircase replacements, and safety and security upgrades.

Four other Brooklyn stations are also included in the accessibility project. Neptune Avenue on the F line will receive one new elevator, 18th Avenue on the N line will receive two new elevators, Jefferson Street on the L line will receive two new elevators, and Nostrand Avenue on the A/C line will receive three new elevators.

The MTA is currently seeking firms to design and build the project, with proposals due September 14. The agency said it plans to award the contract by the end of the year.
