MTA Bringing Vending Machines to 26 NYC Subway Stations
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is rolling out vending machines at 26 subway stations across New York City as part of an effort to repurpose vacant retail spaces and provide riders with easier access to snacks and beverages.
The MTA announced the initiative on July 30, saying machines are already operating at the 2nd Avenue F station, the 23rd Street R/W station and the 116th Street 6 station. Additional installations are planned through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.
The vending machines are being installed inside former retail units rather than on subway platforms, allowing the MTA to reuse vacant spaces without reducing room available to riders.
Stations slated for vending machines include 42nd Street-Bryant Park, Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, Flushing-Main Street, Jamaica-179th Street, South Ferry, Wall Street and several other locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
The broader rollout is expected to include about 60 machines across the 26 stations, according to reporting by 6sqft.
MTA officials said the program is intended to turn underused former retail spaces into amenities for subway customers while making stations more convenient for riders.
