MTA to Open Six 24/7 Customer Service Subway Stations In the Near Future

By early 2023, six high-traffic subway stations citywide will feature new Customer Service Centers that remain open 24/7, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and Transport Workers Union (TMU) Local 100 announced today.

In Brooklyn, the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue stations will soon feature additional customer support.

The other four subway stations to offer new Customer Service Centers are at 161 Street-Yankee Stadium, 34 Street-Pennsylvania Station, St. George, and Flushing-Main Street.

Station agents will “largely work outside of repurposed booths that feature enhanced accessibility, OMNY technology, and a dedicated, more welcoming visual presentation for customers through new lighting, branded wrapping, and canopies,” the MTA said.

Customer Service Centers will also provide customers with information about submitting complaints, providing updates on travel delays, and providing directions on navigating the transit system.

NYC Transit President Richard Davey said the MTA intends for the new Customer Service Centers to bring full-service support for riders, such as those who need help switching to OMNY and enrolling in the Reduced-Fare programs.

“Customer Service Centers will be a game changer for subway riders,” claimed Davey. He added that MTA staff who work at the Customer Service Centers would receive training on OMNY equipment and other customer service functions.

“Riders want customer service and stations staffed with people, not just OMNY card vending machines,” said TWU Local 100 Stations Vice President Robert Kelley.

As 2023 progresses, the MTA will install nine more Customer Service Centers at the following subway stations: Myrtle–Wyckoff Avenues, Roosevelt Avenue, Fulton Street, Sutphin Boulevard, Archer Avenue–JFK Airport, 74 Street–Jackson Heights, East 180 Street, 125 Street, Fordham Road, and Times Square–42 Street.
