New Bill Proposed Aims to Put an End to Illegal Parking, Including by NYPD

A new bill proposed by Councilman Lincoln Restler will encourage residents to take pictures of illegally parked cars, including the police department, and then send the photos to the City so the vehicle's registered owner can be fined.
As a biker himself, parking illegally in a bike lane is of particular concern to Restler, along with the overall problem caused by patrol cars and other vehicles.
"The NYPD has failed to enforce against this illegal activity," Restler said, according to Pix11. "If they're not going to follow the rules themselves, you really think they're going to enforce it against someone else?"
The NYPD says it's aware of the issue and has increased responses to illegal parking overall by 65%.
At the same time, NYPD's Chief of Patrol John Chell says he is working to end the practice by some police officers of parking illegally.
