New York Marathon To Cause Street Closures This Sunday
By Idy Perl
The New York Marathon will be taking place this coming Sunday and will cause multiple street closures in NYC.
Some street closures will already start Saturday night, although the NYPD hasn’t yet announced which streets it’ll be. Starting early Sunday morning there will also be a large police presence in the city to provide security for the thousands of runners.
The NYPD has announced that unlike past years, cyclists will not have access to the streets that will be closed along the marathon route.
“The security picture last year was complex, this year it is perhaps even more so,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence and Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner said at a press briefing. “Last year we had a plan, we executed it, and the marathon went off without a hitch. The same will be true of this year.”
