NYC’s New 465 Area Code Takes Effect Today

Starting today, Thursday, New York City’s new 465 area code officially goes into use for newly issued phone numbers in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, and Marble Hill.

The new area code joins 718, 347, 917, and 929, which are already used across those parts of the city.

Phone companies will now begin assigning 465 numbers when opening new cell phone lines, business lines, or other new phone service in the city.

The new code was added because available phone numbers under the existing area codes have been running low, and officials determined that another area code was needed to keep up with demand.
