NYC Schools Set to Reopen on Schedule

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed on Thursday that NYC schools are on track to reopen in September.

De Blasio said 75% of city parents are hoping schools open on schedule. They do not want to continue with remote learning next year. They feel their children are fading academically and socially because of it.

There will be many guidelines to comply with in order to move forward with social distancing.

Restrictions will include student maximums. Schools with limited space will have to stagger classes, this will result in several groups of kids who alternate between remote learning and in person classes.

“That piece will be determined with the schools,” de Blasio said. “That’s an ongoing conversation with the unions to see what that final configuration will be. But it will be announced well in advance of school beginning so parents can plan.”

More precautions such as requiring masks throughout the day and regular deep cleanings will also be enforced.

De Blasio said concrete details will be discussed in the coming weeks.
