NYC Sees 213 Lane Miles Repaired, 266 Bridges Improved in 2025, Hochul Says

As the year comes to a close, Governor Kathy Hochul is looking back at what state officials are calling one of the most productive years yet for New York’s roads and bridges.

According to the governor, New York State made major gains in 2025 by upgrading more than 4,120 lane miles of highways, repairing over 3,700 bridges, and filling more than 1.3 million potholes statewide. In total, the state invested $3.6 billion in transportation infrastructure this year.

Compared to last year, the state upgraded 47 percent more roadway lane miles and repaired or replaced 19 percent more bridges, marking what Hochul described as historic progress.

Within New York City, crews rehabilitated 213 lane miles and repaired or improved 266 bridges, addressing long-standing maintenance needs and improving reliability for daily commuters.

Beyond paving and bridge work, NYSDOT crews also stayed busy with maintenance, performing additional repairs on nearly 2,000 bridges and aggressively responding to potholes throughout the year.

The Thruway Authority also reinvested toll revenue back into the system, spending $158 million on roadway reconstruction, $89 million on bridge work, and additional funding on infrastructure improvements and traffic management technology.

Looking ahead, the governor said the pace will not slow down. NYSDOT is planning to resurface more than 4,000 lane miles of state highways in 2026, representing a nearly $1.2 billion investment and the most ambitious paving agenda in the agency’s history. The Thruway Authority’s 2026 budget includes more than $600 million in capital projects and launches a $2.8 billion five-year capital plan aimed at replacing or preserving 150 bridges and resurfacing roughly 60 percent of the Thruway’s lane miles.

All this work reflects a long-term effort to modernize New York’s transportation system, improve safety, and keep roads and bridges reliable for years to come.
