NYPD 66th Precinct Warns: Jewelry Scammers Are Active Again
By Y.M. Lowy
The NYPD 66th Precinct is warning New Yorkers that jewelry scams are back and often targeting elderly members of the community.
In many cases, groups of scammers use distractions to get close. Sometimes they involve children, then steal jewelry or quietly swap real pieces for fakes. Others may approach with a story about needing cash right away, offering fake jewelry in return. BoroPark24 reported on one such story on May 8th.
Police are urging everyone to stay alert and to report any suspicious encounter, even if nothing was taken, to help prevent future incidents.
Please take a moment to pass this along to family or friends who may be at risk.
