Two Arrested in Fake Gold and Rolex Scam After Targeting Local Residents

By Y.M. Lowy

Two suspects were arrested yesterday after attempting to scam a local resident with fake gold jewelry and counterfeit Rolex watches, thanks to Chevra Shomrim.

The men allegedly approached people on the street claiming to be wealthy travelers from Dubai who had lost their wallets and urgently needed cash. To gain trust, they offered what appeared to be expensive rings, chains, and watches, which were later discovered to be cheap imitations. One resident recently lost over $7,000 in a single encounter.

Earlier, when the suspects tried the same approach again, the intended victim grew suspicious and contacted Shomrim. With the assistance of their scooter volunteers, the NYPD was alerted, and the suspects were tracked after trying to flee by car. They were ultimately arrested.

Investigators believe the duo may be connected to similar scams involving large financial losses.
