NYPD Charge Two Remaining Boro Park Hate Crime Suspects
By Yehudit Garmaise
NYPD officers escorted hate crime suspects Ashan Azad, who is 19, and Haider A. Anjam, who is 20, out of the 66th Precinct, which is at 5822 16th Ave., and into a waiting vehicle this early this evening.
While Azad and Anjam were both charged with aggravated harassment and hate crime harassment, Ajam was additionally charged with hate crime menacing.
As the two perpetrators were doing their “walk of shame,” reporters asked them, “Why did you do it?”
“Do you have anything to say? Are you guys sorry?
“Do you have any regrets?”
Perhaps only in a heimish neighborhood could one hear a reporter ask criminals, “You make your Mom proud?”
Unlike Danial Shaukat, who is 20, and who was arrested yesterday, Azad and Anjam did not apologize for harassing and assaulting two yeshiva boys in Flatbush, and then harassing and threatening four Yidden on 16th Avenue in front of the Agudah Israel shul on Shabbos.
On Shabbos at around 7:30pm, the trio’s blue Toyota Camry appeared on 16th Ave., as the boys were shouting, “Free Palestine,” and “We’ll kill all the Jews.”
The perpetrators tried to follow the Yidden into Agudah Israel, but they remained safe by quickly getting inside and locking the door, which was exactly the right thing to do, said community security experts, who pointed out that keeping doors locked is one of the most important strategies to keeping unwanted intruders out of buildings.
