Overnight Lane Closures Coming to BQE Due to Paving
By Y.M. Lowy
Starting Monday night, June 16, the NYC Department of Transportation will begin milling work on the Queens-bound BQE, from Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge. Milling is the process of removing the top layer of old asphalt so the road can be repaved smoothly.
Work will take place overnight, from 11 PM to 5 AM, and only one lane will be open during those hours. This will continue on weeknights through Tuesday, June 24. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to avoid this stretch of road during work hours.
Once milling is done and DOT finishes needed concrete repairs, paving is scheduled to begin in early July, also during overnight hours.
This section of the BQE covers nearly 3 lane miles. The city is resurfacing more roads than ever, helping reduce pothole complaints and speeding up repair times, with most potholes now filled within two days.
