Readers Write: Frustrated by Street Closures Amid Holiday Traffic

To whichever City Agency or Askan this may concern,

As we are now in the midst of the High Holiday season, a time that the city is well aware of and has extensively prepared for, I find it necessary to voice serious concerns about the current state of our local streets.

In recent weeks, multiple photos have surfaced showing high-level meetings among various city agencies supposedly ensuring that preparations are in place. However, despite these assurances, the reality on the ground tells a different story.

It seems the focus has been misplaced. While police helicopters hover above and other assistance is provided for the community, the heavy traffic from numerous street closures has caused significant disruptions for residents.

Traffic congestion is not new to our neighborhood, but it has intensified dramatically in these weeks. The holiday season brings unique demands on every household as we prepare for the many significant days ahead. Continuing with major construction projects—particularly the "green infrastructure" initiative—at this time only adds unnecessary strain to an already challenging situation.

Is this project so critical that it cannot wait just one month?

Were local residents properly notified in advance with detailed reports of the street closures and their timelines?

These are questions that we feel have not been adequately addressed.

On behalf of the community, I ask that you consider pausing these construction projects during this critical time and allow us access to our streets without added disruption. Our streets belong to the residents, and it is vital that we are not sidelined, especially during such an important season.

I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to this pressing issue.
