Sammy’s Law Implemented On First NYC Street
By Idy Perl
Back in March, the new “Sammy’s Law” was passed, which gave the city to ability to set local speeding limits, as reported by BoroPark24.
The first road to have its speed limit lowered is Prosect Park West, which is where Sammy Cohen Eckstein, the 12-year-old boy who the law is named after, was tragically killed by a driver.
This morning NYC DOT livestreamed the installation of the new speed limit signs on Prospect Park West. The event was attended by NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, Sammy Eckstein’s father Gary Eckstein, and several law enforcement officers and road safety advocates.
The speed limit of the road was changed to 20 MPH, which is expected to become the speed limit for most roads in NYC.
