Satmar Cheder in Boro Park Under Attack by the DOE

By BoroPark24 Staff
A major blow has hit the Boro Park community as the Satmar cheder on 36th Street has come under attack by the DOE.
The New York City Department of Education has declared the yeshiva not substantially equivalent to public school, and come June 30, all services including special education support will be cut off. This announcement came in a letter sent directly to the parents.
But it does not stop there. Families were stunned to learn that every child receiving special education services must now be reevaluated. Even those with existing IESPs will have to start redoing the extensive process from scratch just to get their children the speech therapy or P3 they need.
It's not the first time. It is just another link in a long chain of attacks on yeshiva education. The system continues to find new ways to pressure parents and discredit our schools and the intent is clear. It follows a pattern of targeting and discriminatory tactics, many of which were outlined in a civil rights complaint filed with the federal government in recent months.
While askanim continue to battle on the legal front, Klal Yisroel stands stronger than ever - unwavering in our commitment to follow the ways of the Torah and to educate our children according to our values and mesorah.
