Senator Sam Sutton Secures $20 Million Boost to Protect Yeshivas and Schools

Senator Sam Sutton Secures $20 Million Boost to Protect Yeshivas and Schools

By Y.M. Lowy

Following a disturbing wave of antisemitic graffiti found at Magen David Yeshivah, a Hatzalah dispatch center, and around Washington Cemetery, Senator Sam Sutton announced that the state will add another $20 million to the Nonpublic School Safety Equipment (NPSE) program to help secure yeshivas and other nonpublic schools.

The announcement came as Senator Sutton stood alongside Governor Kathy Hochul, state and city officials, and community leaders in Brooklyn yesterday. Together, they condemned the hateful vandalism and expressed commitment to ensuring safety for all Jewish institutions.

Senator Sutton said the recent attacks struck deeply within the heart of the Jewish community. “Our institutions may have been defaced, but our spirit will never be broken,” he said. “No parent should ever have to explain this kind of hate to their children.”

Governor Hochul called the graffiti a “hateful display of antisemitism” and confirmed that the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

The new funding will ensure that every child can walk into their yeshiva or school feeling safe and proud.
