Set Up a Chasan-Kalla House for $2,300: New Chasuna Package
Boro Park - A new organization dedicated to lowering chasuna expenses is promoting a package of setting up an entire house for a chasan and kalla for a little above $2,000 per side.
The Atarah Chasuna Fund has three plans, aided by the support of local furniture stores, which provides a choice of bedroom sets — including beds, mattresses, a dresser with a mirror and a nightstand — and a dinette set of a table and six chairs, a curio and a couch.
One, for a total of $4,650 among both mechutanim, provides the basics. An upgraded set costs $5,800 and a fancier collection goes for $6,300.
Each plan includes a discount of approximately $1,800, Atarah said. It added that additional cost savers on other chasuna expenses are forthcoming.
The group has also produced a list of chasuna halls that are waiving the traditional minimum number of couples to just 50 or 75. In Boro Park, for example, Kerem Menachem, formerly Torah Veyirah, as well as Anshei Sefard, are on the list. The group is working to finalize deals with the Hod Vehadar hall at the Beis Sarah school building and the Spinka hall.
