Shomrim Stops Robbery At Knifepoint

By Idy Perl

Thanks to the quick response of Shomrim, the perpetrator of a robbery at knifepoint was swiftly arrested last night.

Yesterday at midnight an individual came into the Zoom Food Station on Fort Hamilton. The individual waited until the store was mostly empty and then took a bottle of water to the register and paid with cash. When the cashier opened the register to put away the money the perp ran behind the counter and took out a large knife. He pointed the knife at the clerk and demanded that he hand over all the money from the register.

The clerk was shocked and scared and didn’t fight back as the individual grabbed between $1,000-$2,000 and ran out of the store. A nearby customer alerted two Shomrim members who were outside the store about what was going on, but when the perp came outside, he was still holding the knife.

The perp ran down 43rd Street towards Fort Hamilton, where two more Shomrim members were luckily stationed. Now together, they approached him and alerted the police, who quickly responded to the scene and took him into custody. The knife and cash were found in his pocket.

"Right place, right time!" the NYPD 66th Precinct wrote on X, "Thanks to alert community partners, a knifepoint commercial robbery was stopped in progress. The defendant was wanted for multiple robberies in the area. Outstanding teamwork and vigilance!".
