Speed Limit Changes on Boro Park Streets
By Idy Perl
NYC DOT Commissioner announced today that speed limits will be reduced in several areas following the enactment of Sammy’s Law, previously reported here.
This new legislation gives the City of NY the authority to change speed limits.
Most of the speed reductions will be near sensitive areas such as schools, or on Shared and Open Streets, which are streets where pedestrians, cyclists and motorists all share the right of way. On some streets the speed limit will be reduced to 20 MPH, and on others it will be lowered to 10 MPH.
NYC DOT will soon notify community boards and give a 60-day public comment period before implementing the new speed limits.
These following Boro Park streets are on the list:
7th Ave, between 43rd Street and 44th Street.
9th Ave, between 63rd Street and 64th Street.
45 St, between Fort Hamilton Parkway and Tenth Ave.
