Members of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance plan to hold their third strike in protest of Uber blocking driver pay raises.
The alliance includes 21,000 yellow cabs, Lyft, and Uber drivers, green car, black car, livery, and app-dispatched drivers, all of whom will join the joint strike planned for Sunday, February 26.
Drivers who are members of the alliance will not do airport pickups from noon until midnight on Sunday, February 26.
The upcoming strike was caused by Uber suing over the per-minute increases of 7.8% drivers were expecting, which had been approved by the Taxi and Limousine Commission in November, as reported by BoroPark24 here.
The raise was scheduled to be applied on December 19, but a judge issued a temporary restraining order after Uber sued to stop the increase. The commission was subsequently encouraged to give more precise reasoning, substantiated by detailed math, before trying to increase rates again.
The next hearing on raising rideshare payment is scheduled for March 1.
