Tragic Discovery: Missing Man Found in Water Near Floyd Bennett Field by Shmira Harbour Units

With deep sorrow, we regret to share that the search for 79-year-old Valeriy Abramov ended in tragedy this afternoon, when Shmira volunteers located his body off the shoreline near Floyd Bennett Field in Mill Basin.

As reported, Boro Park Shmira joined yesterday in a massive search effort, together with Shmira divisions from across the city, the NYPD, Hatzalah, NYS Park Police, and countless community volunteers. Shmira Boats, K-9 units, Drones and extensive manpower had been deployed to canvass the area in hopes of bringing him home safely.

Shmira Harbour Unit’s Search & Rescue Water Team ultimately found the body — tragically not the outcome that was hoped for. Authorities have confirmed the identity, and the family has been notified.
