Tuesday Tip: Celebrate Purim with Safety and Joy

BoroPark24 wishes our readers a Freilachen Purim, be we also want to issue a few reminders that can help to keep everyone safe, healthy, and happy.

1. If you have l’chaim, don’t get behind the wheel of a car.

2. If you plan on drinking, give your keys and money to a trusted friend before you start to “celebrate.” Alcohol dramatically clouds judgment.

3. Refrain from over-consumption of alcohol, which can cause alcohol poisoning and even death. 

4. Never provide minors with alcohol.

5. “If you see something, say something,” reminds Chief Richie Taylor, who added that people can call the NYPD’s Counterterrorism tip line at 1 (888) NYC-SAFE.

6. Ensure you always know where your children are.

7. Costumes, whether store-bought or homemade, should only be made of non-flammable materials. Cotton, feathers, and plastic wraps are flammable and can be dangerous for both children and adults.

8. Firecrackers, which can cause severe burns, eye injuries, and sometimes limb amputations, should be strictly forbidden.

9. Ensure children do not fire cap guns near anyone’s eyes, nor ears.

10. Immediately scrub face and remove skin makeup or face paint that creates allergic reactions, such as swelling, itchiness, or breathing difficulties. Call Hatzolah or 911 for help if necessary.

11. Keep Mishloach Manos relatively simple. No need to exhaust yourself and spend hundreds of dollars. 

12. Children and adults should eat a healthy, protein-filled breakfast and a light protein and vegetable-filled lunch to prevent over-indulgence in sweets and treats throughout the day.

13. Have fun, and always make a Kiddush Hashem.
